Sustainability

AKD's plantations capture carbon dioxide, a significant greenhouse gas, and the company ensures land under its management and the land of growers supplying our resource, is sustainable by operating under the Code of Forest Practice for the Production of Timber. This maintains soil and water qualities and the productivity of the site is preserved and enhanced.

As a landowner AKD is committed to controlling pest plants and animals and is involved with a number of stakeholders in managing the land for a range of environmental values, including salinity mitigation, water quality improvements and protecting and enhancing biodiversity and habitat.

Throughout the production process AKD utilises all sawmill residues with woodchips exported for paper production, pinebark converted to potting mixes and sawdust used as the primary heat plant fuel for our kiln drying processes.
